Meditation Hut & Chair
Project type
Small Project
Date
December 2017
Location
Urbana, Illinois
Located at the Emerald Pond in Kickapoo State Park near the Illinois-Indiana border, this project intended to design a cardboard chair used for meditation along with a small shelter to compliment it.
Meditation is done through a reclined position while listening to nature or white noise. Thus, the chair is shaped like a small chaise using an eggcrate style construction to maintain strength while still being light enough to reposition on its’ base. The hut itself is of wood construction in half-cylinder form to increase echoes. Two doors on each end lead to a fire-pit to socialize/stargaze and a “water-bridge”. The water bridge serves as a secondary meditation space by mimicking the chair through the handrails and at the end folding into a chaise itself.
