Museum of Forced Migration
Project type
Museum/Civic
Date
December 2018
Location
Bogota, Columbia
Located in Bogota, Colombia, the Museum of Forced Migration is a memorial to those who have been forcibly displaced, both in Colombia and abroad. The design intent is to isolate the visitor from the land itself, this is done through lifting the main structure of the building above and away from the ground. Light to the interior is provided through skylights to emphasize the martyrdom of those who have suffered through forced migration and to diffuse direct light interfering with the exhibits. Classrooms, a theater, and a chapel are also provided to further community outreach Additionally, an adjacent park showing an abstracted form of all migration patterns through lit monoliths helps represent the actual physical movement forced migrants must endure.
